Presentation by Marvyn Novick to a planning meeting of agency representatives of Durham Region convened by the Community Development Council of Durham on the afternoon of March 19 at Dunbarton-Fairport United Church in Pickering.Discussion ensued on strategies for participating in the provincial consultations. Some particular concerns were expressed about the housing situation in Durham with a fast growing population and housing development that does not meet the needs and means of low income people. Issues with the Ontario Planning Act were cited as barriers to the ability of city and regional governments to create affordable housing.
